Acharya Shionuma entered the Kimpusen Temple atop Nara Prefecture's Mt. Yoshino in 1987. In 1999, he became the second person in 1,300 years to complete the One Thousand Days Trekking Practice on Mount Omine. He is now head bonze of Jigenji, the Merciful Eye Temple, in a small village close to Sendai.
