Dr. Meyerhoefer served as financial counsellor at the German Embassy in Tokyo, senior economist for the Federal Ministry of Finance, and advisor to the office of the German executive director for the International Monetary Fund in Washington. He was also an economist in the International Department at the Federal Ministry of Finance.

He has a masters and PhD in economics from Freie Universität Berlin. He is also an executive master of public management, awarded by the Hertie School of Governance in Germany and the London School of Economics.
