Ms. Shimada is a principal at Mercer’s Global M&A Consulting in Tokyo. She provides pre-and-post deal HR/management- and organization-related support for both domestic and cross-border M&A deals in various industries and countries. She was a start-up member of the M&A business at Mercer Japan back in 2002 and has been playing the key role since then.

Some of the projects she has led include HR/management due diligence of private equity and corporate deals, post-merger HR management integration of large Japanese companies, organization survey and change management of foreign-affiliated and Japanese companies, holistic pre-and-post outbound cross-border acquisition support of listed Japanese companies and foreign acquirers, cross-border joint-venture development and employee transfer support in Japan, and global HR management program development at Japanese companies.

Prior to joining Mercer, she worked in the HR Planning Department of a Japanese corporation. She is the co-author of Attraction and Retention: The Human Capital Strategy (2001, Toyo Keizai), HR Due Diligence for Successful M&A (2006 & 2010 ; Chuo Keizai), and Post-Merger Integration (2007 ; Nikkei Publishing), M&A Integration Handbook (2010, Chio Keizai).

Ms. Shimada holds BA from the School of International Political Science and Business at Aoyama Gakuin University and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
