Mr. Fujii specializes in competition law and international trade laws. He has handled a number of significant cases enhancing Japan’s security of energy and natural resources. His career in competition law includes successful counseling to complete international mergers contributing to increased efficiencies in nuclear power plants and fuel industries. He has also provided successful advocacy to blocking two sets of mergers in the sector of natural mineral resources which would have harmed the user industries in East Asia and the EU.
Until recently, he served as the deputy director in charge of trade dispute settlement at Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry in order to act on behalf of the Japanese government before the WTO tribunal involving China’s export restrictions of rare metals. He currently serves as one of the committee members of Energy and Law Study Group of the Institute of Energy Economics.
