Born in Kobe, Japan. Third-generation “overseas Chinese.” Recently acquired Japanese citizenship. Graduated of St. Michael’ International School and Canadian Academy. Awarded bachelor’s of Science degree from London School of Economics and Political Science(LSE) and Master’s of Science degree from Oxford University. Studied Social Psychology and Social Research/Social Welfare. Worked at Arthur Andersen based in the United Kingdom as an international tax consultant, then subsequently worked for Virgin Group and Dyson in Japan after launching his first start-up in Thailand.
Founded La Ditta in 2006 which now operates offices in Singapore, Mumbai and Tokyo. He travels more than 200,000 miles a year. Runs consultancy projects, Japanese government projects, and founder of businesses that include maidoindia.com, haveyoubeentheredonethat.travel, umaide.com, cooljapanfestival.com, and sushiandmore.com. Writes for Conde Nast Traveller, BBC Good Food, and other publications, and is India correspondent for radio channel “J-Wave TOKYO UNITED”. Member of International Food, Wine, and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA), Oxford and Cambridge Club (London), and International House of Japan (IHJ).Awards include Good Design Award (2010) for “Been There Done That – Checklist of Your Travel Life”, Guinness Book of World Records for “Largest Sushi Mosaic” (jointly with IHM Mumbai in 2008), and Brand Slam Leadership Award (CMO Asia, 2012). Lectures at GLOBIS Singapore, the Academy of Management Development (Japan Productivity Centre), and other seminars around Asia.
